Robert Jackson Bennett
Robert Jackson Bennett, 42, is the author of The Tainted Cup, the first book in The Shadow of the Leviathan series, which won the 2025 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The second book in the series, A Drop of Corruption, has been nominated for, and is favored to win, the 2026 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The third book, A Trade of Blood, from which this essay was excerpted, was published in August 2026. Bennett lives in Central Texas, with his family.
